Breaking the Cycle of Negative Thoughts

The Blunt - Get High on the Truth

“I CAN’T STAND these damn computers. Useless pieces of crap!” That’s how I was thinking and feeling today.  Know why? Because both my desktop computer and laptop were acting up. Usually if one is buggin’ out the other is working just fine. Not today.

Needless to say, I was pissed off.

What I noticed is that when I got pissed about the computers I started getting pissed about unrelated stuff. And before I knew it I was caught up in a cycle of negative thoughts.

I had to catch myself, so to speak.

I was like: “Hold up. I’m not a negative person. Just chill.”

When I came back to my righteous mind a verse from the Bible came to my remembrance.

“Every seed produces after its own kind.”

For example, apple seeds produce apples and grape seeds produce grapes.

So what does this have to do with anything?

Check this out…

Thoughts are Seeds

Thoughts produce after their own kind. Negative thoughts produce negative thoughts. Likewise positive thoughts produce positive thoughts. In my situation, my negative thoughts about my computers produced even more negative thoughts. Within minutes I created a negative atmosphere for myself.

This is an example of a powerful  Universal Law at work called the Law of Reciprocity. Mama ‘nem would say it this way: “You reap what you sow.”

Think of the Universe as Divine Soil. When you plant negative thoughts (seeds) into that soil negativity comes back to you, and there the cycle begins. What you put into the Universe comes back to you; hence, the Law of Reciprocity.

How do you break the cycle of negative thoughts?

This is what I did…

Kept things in perspective – There are lot more serious problems in this world than two malfunctioning ass computers. It’s not the end of the world.

Shifted my focus – Since the computers weren’t cooperating with me I went old school. I grabbed my pen and paper and I did my thing. In other words, I did other things on my “To Do List” that didn’t require a computer. Bitching and complaining about my computers weren’t helping me or the computers.

Turned a Negative into a Positive – Negativity and positivity are two sides of the same coin. In every negative situation there’s a seed of positivity. For example, instead of letting the computer malfunctions ruin my day I turned my negative situation into a blog post. Now I’m sharing a life lesson that not only helped me but may also help someone else.

So if you find yourself caught up in a cycle of negative thoughts remember that you have the power to break that cycle. Just put the negative situation in its proper perspective, focus on something other than the negative situation and find something positive in the negative situation and make it work for you.
